5º FOLLOW-UP OF A LONGITUDINAL STUDY OF 108 POTENTIAL "PRECOCES" - "SUPER GIFTED" (HIGH CAPACITIES) PUPILS BORN IN 1985, STARTED IN 1990-91 E.C. FROM 100% OF THE SCHOOL POPULATION OF 5 YEAR OLD CHILDREN (2510 PUPILS) IN MÓSTOLES - Madrid- Spain.

1. Introduction

OBJECTIVE: To justify the need for psycho-pedagogical detection/evaluation for educational attention and intervention with highly able pupils.

JUSTIFICATION: 32 YEARS OF FOLLOW-UP:

As "giftedness" was "ignored" (R.D. 334/1985) Ordenación Educación Especial (BOE N. 65, March/1985, motivated the START OF THE LONGITUDINAL STUDY (six cohorts of research).

A.- Main antecedent: Doctoral Thesis by Dr. López Andrada (1986-1990).

B.- The "Initial Study" (1990/91) and "The First Follow-up" (1995-96: National Prize for Educational Research 1998) were awarded grants (CIDE/MEC).

*The first paper presents the Process of Detection-Identification to select the sample of 108 students (V-M) of "high abilities" (1990-91). It was based on 100% of the "E.I.5 years" school population (2,510 pupils) of Móstoles".

*The second paper deals with the "analysis and academic development of the current socio-family and work situation".

*The third paper presents a "preview of some statistical analyses applied in the 5th follow-up and "comparative" with previous results".

*The fourth paper shows a General Action Plan with Precocious, Gifted and Talented Pupils: Simultaneous DETECTION-IDENTIFICATION - INTERVENTION AND RESPONSE-EDUCATIONAL MODEL.

2.- Methodology and research techniques

- Method: "Filtering"-"Mixed"-"Sifting".

- Techniques: "Field study". Data collection instruments/information sources.

Data analysis (quantitative-qualitative).

3.- Results: Statistical differences, most significant inter-intra-group and inter-intra-sex conclusions (BD-CONTROL) contrasting studies by previous researchers.

Discussion: Debate on the results and conclusions of the Longitudinal Study and its application in Educational Centres, both in the phases of "detection" - "Diagnostic Evaluation" and "intervention" through an Action Plan "PAGAPRESTE".

  • Director and Principal Investigator of the beginning of the Longitudinal Study of reference (1990-91) and its five follow-ups until nowadays (2022-2023).
  • Teacher at all levels of education (Pre-school, Primary School Teacher -EGB-, ESO-Baccalaureate and University).
