Exploring cyber-violence: Associated factors and analysis of its dynamics.

The relationship spaces of adolescents and young people have largely shifted to virtual contexts. This has brought new opportunities for those who participate in social networks, but, at the same time, manifestations of violence (among others, cyberbullying, sexting without consent or cyberhate) have appeared in online environments that mark the interactions that take place within them.
Research on these phenomena has highlighted the importance of these phenomena for the adjustment and well-being of those involved, especially as recipients of violent behaviour. However, it is still necessary to further explore the associated factors that can help us to better understand the nature of these episodes, as well as the dynamics behind their initiation, maintenance or resolution.
This symposium will analyse some of the variables linked to participation in some of the most prevalent cyber-violence phenomena among adolescents and young people: cyberbullying, sexting without consent and cyber-hate. In addition, aspects linked to the dynamics of each of these problems will be discussed, especially those related to the variables that facilitate the stability of the victims of cyberbullying and sexting, as well as the role of spectators in the face of episodes of cyberhate.
Licenciado y Doctor en Psicología por la Universidad de Sevilla, es Profesor Titular del Departamento de Psicología Evolutiva y de la Educación desde 2009 y forma parte del grupo de investigación IASED (Agresión Interpersonal y Desarrollo Socioemocional - SEJ580). Su carrera investigadora ha estado vinculada desde sus inicios al estudio de los fenómenos de violencia interpersonal, en particular el acoso escolar y el ciberacoso, interesándose especialmente por las estrategias de afrontamiento y el análisis de los procesos metacognitivos implicados. Dentro de esta temática ha liderado y participado en proyectos de investigación competitivos de carácter internacional, nacional y regional, fruto de los cuales ha publicado regularmente sus contribuciones en revistas de alto impacto internacional. En la actualidad es co-IP del proyecto de investigación “Respuestas de jóvenes y adolescentes ante la ciberviolencia: variables asociadas y modelos explicativos” (PID2020-115913GB-I00) financiado por el plan estatal de I+D. Fruto de esta trayectoria, fue seleccionado por la Unión Europea para liderar el asesoramiento al gobierno esloveno en la prevención de la violencia entre menores y ha participado como evaluador y consultor externo en proyectos europeos de distintas convocatorias. Es miembro del Observatorio Internacional de Clima Escolar y Prevención de la violencia.
